An Aeolian Islands yacht charter itinerary offers one of the most distinctive cruising experiences in the Mediterranean. Connecting Palermo to Capri over eight days, this route combines Sicily’s historic coastline with the volcanic landscapes of the Aeolian archipelago. Designed for luxury motor yachts and high-end sailing vessels, an Aeolian Islands yacht charter balances short Mediterranean passages with exceptional anchorages, authentic Italian culture and iconic island scenery.
From the remote silence of Alicudi to the glamour of Capri, this Aeolian Islands yacht charter itinerary delivers a refined Southern Italy cruising program within a structured 8-day framework.
This 8-day Aeolian Islands yacht charter itinerary begins in Palermo, a strategic embarkation port for a Sicily yacht charter, before crossing toward Alicudi and Filicudi. The route then progresses through Salina, Lipari, Panarea and Stromboli before concluding in Capri, creating a seamless transition from raw volcanic landscapes to refined Mediterranean elegance.
For a broader regional overview, explore our Sicily Yacht Charter page.
Short passages between islands make this Aeolian Islands yacht charter itinerary ideal for guests seeking variety without extended sea days. Each island presents a distinct character — from the vineyards of Salina to the cosmopolitan ambiance of Panarea and the dramatic volcanic profile of Stromboli.
Guests can combine swimming, tender exploration and onshore dining experiences while maintaining a relaxed Mediterranean cruising rhythm.
The Aeolian archipelago is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its active volcanic formations and striking geological contrasts. A luxury yacht charter in the Aeolian Islands offers not only natural spectacle but also access to Sicilian gastronomy, boutique harbors and exclusive Mediterranean anchorages.
For additional Southern Italy routes, discover our Italy Yacht Charter collection or browse available vessels via Search Yachts for Charter.
The best time for an Aeolian Islands yacht charter is between June and September, when Mediterranean weather conditions are stable and sea temperatures are ideal for swimming. During these months, an Aeolian Islands yacht charter itinerary benefits from predictable wind patterns and excellent cruising visibility.
July and August offer a vibrant social atmosphere, particularly in Panarea and Capri, while June and September provide a quieter experience with fewer vessels.
May and early October can also be attractive for experienced charter guests seeking reduced marina traffic and milder temperatures. While local wind systems such as the Mistral may influence daily routing, professional captains adapt the itinerary to ensure comfort and safety throughout the cruise.
Most Aeolian Islands yacht charter itineraries begin in Palermo, Portorosa or Milazzo, all accessible from Palermo or Catania international airports. These ports provide reliable provisioning services and logistical support for luxury motor yachts operating within the Aeolian archipelago.
Navigation between the Aeolian Islands is generally straightforward, with moderate distances allowing flexible daily routing. However, local wind systems and occasional open-water passages require experienced captains familiar with Mediterranean cruising conditions.
Motor yachts and performance sailing yachts are both well suited to an Aeolian Islands yacht charter itinerary, depending on guest preference and cruising style.

The Aeolian Islands archipelago is made up of seven populated islands off the coasts of Sicily and mainland Italy. The island of Alicudi is the most remote and is the least populated of the islands. It is a simple and unassuming place with an utterly unique atmosphere and a population of less than 100 people. Its rugged charm and isolation draw the intrepid traveler seeking peace and solitude.
Alicudi is the wildest and most untouched island of the Aeolian Islands.
No cars. No nightlife. No boutiques. Only volcanic rock, fishermen, and silence. This is where the civilized world disappears.
Best anchorage: Alicudi Porto (south-east coast). Good holding in sand and rock. Protection from north winds. Stunning sunset exposure. Small pier available for tender operations. No real marina infrastructure for large yachts — anchoring is preferred.
Afternoon Experience
• Tender ashore to explore the stone paths
• Climb part of Monte Filo dell’Arpa (moderate walk)
• Visit the tiny church of San Bartolo
• Sunset aperitif onboard facing Filicudi
This island is about atmosphere, not activities.
Dinner
Onboard dinner strongly recommended.
Chef suggestion: Sicilian seafood tasting menu with Etna white wines.
Alicudi has only very simple trattorias

Part of the Aeolian islands, Filicudi has several small villages and very fertile soil, with grapes, olives, grains and vegetables all grown here. The island is also of great archeological importance as it was a thriving site of production and trade, around 2000 BC. Capo Graziano houses the ruins of over 30 oval huts from that period. With only 300 residents on the island it is a delightful escape and a peaceful place to set anchor in one of the many quiet coves.
Filicudi feels like Alicudi’s elegant sister — still wild, but with charm and refined simplicity.
Morning Stop
Swim stop at La Canna volcanic rock formation — dramatic vertical lava column rising from the sea.
Crystal-clear water for snorkeling.
Anchorage
Pecorini a Mare (south-west coast)
Good holding, spectacular sunset views.
No full marina for superyachts — anchoring required.
Afternoon
• Visit Capo Graziano prehistoric village (Bronze Age ruins)
• Short scenic hike with panoramic views
• Boutique artisan shops in the small village
Dinner (Ashore – Recommended)
La Sirena – Pecorini a Mare
Refined Aeolian cuisine, excellent wine list, waterfront tables.

In the north of Sicily, part of the Aeolian islands, lies Salina Island which has been inhabited since the 4th century. It is a picturesque island destination and a popular destination off which you can easily anchor your yacht for an amazing view of the island's dramatic landscape.
Salina is the greenest island of the archipelago.
Twin volcanic cones, vineyards, capers, and elegance.
Morning Swim
Stop at Pollara Bay — iconic amphitheater cliff (where Il Postino was filmed).
Marina Option
• Santa Marina Salina Marina — suitable for yachts up to 50m depending on availability
• Fuel and water available
Alternatively: anchor off Santa Marina or Lingua.
Afternoon
• Wine tasting at a Malvasia winery
• Private car tour of the island
• Visit Lingua lighthouse

Lipari offers the most “civilized” dining atmosphere so far.

Panarea is the ideal destination for a luxurious island getaway. Everyone has heard of Capri, but in Italy however, the locals know of Panarea. During the summer, VIPs, actors, and Italy's affluent youth flock to this glamorous little island for yachting vacations, romantic getaways, and late-night parties. Even though Panarea has a rich history, including the remains of a Bronze Age village, tourism has not affected it much and it is still an authentic destination.
Panarea is the jet-set island of the Aeolians. Chic white houses, boutiques, discreet glamour.
Anchorage
• Cala Junco (iconic turquoise bay)
• Lisca Bianca (calm anchorage)
Marina:
• San Pietro Marina (Panarea Port) – small, limited availability for large yachts. Advance booking crucial.
Afternoon
• Walk through San Pietro village
• Visit prehistoric village at Capo Milazzese
• Sunset cocktails onboard or ashore
Lunch
Raya Restaurant – minimalist chic, exceptional terrace views.
Dinner (Chic)
Hotel Raya – Sunset Terrace
Sophisticated Mediterranean cuisine.
After dinner: Panarea nightlife is elegant and international.

Stromboli is the northernmost island of this archipelago, which can be easily reached from mainland Sicily or from any of the other Aeolian Islands. It is the only island in the world with a permanently active volcano that juts sharply out of the sea, making it a unique charter destination. Because of the small size of this remote island, land transport is not available, making it an idyllic, unspoilt destination, excellent for exploring.
Stromboli is dominated by Europe’s most active volcano.
Continuous eruptions every 15–20 minutes. A primal spectacle.
Anchorage
• Offshore near Ficogrande (black sand beach)
• Night positioning off Sciara del Fuoco for eruption viewing
No real marina for large yachts — anchoring only.
Afternoon
Optional guided volcano hike (strict regulation, licensed guide mandatory).
Dinner
Onboard dinner highly recommended.
Highlight
After sunset: cruise slowly in front of Sciara del Fuoco to witness lava explosions.
Unforgettable experience.

You don’t get better than charming Capri. The graceful gem of the lemon-scented Amalfi Coast, Capri is pure poetry and worthy of a thousand sonnets. Dwarfed by soaring sea cliffs and penned in by the sparkling sea, any other small would disappear against so much drama but not Capri. Brimming with wisteria frothed villas, brightly painted buildings, gardens cloaked in kaleidoscopic colour framed by pergolas, and plump piazzas that are prime people-watching territory, Capri doesn’t fail to utterly enchant. Charter guests will want to visit the famed Grotta Azzurra - this flooded cave was believed to be home to sea nymphs and magic back in Roman days thanks to its iridescent hues of unbelievable blue. The Gardens of Augustus are also worth a stroll and the Villa San Michele is sure to steal your heart. With incredible seafood on offer and divine confection, you won’t go hungry in this happening summer spot.
Capri needs no introduction. Roman emperors, Dolce Vita glamour, global elite.
